Bogotá, capital of Colombia and the most populated city in the country with approximately 8 million inhabitants, keeps jewels of gastronomic heritage that mixes indigenous, Spanish and African flavors. This vibrant South American city full of movement in the middle of the Andes mountain range, lays at 2,600 meters above sea level, where offers dishes that conquer the world is also home to colorful markets that keep authentic and traditional flavors; it houses fusion cuisines that have taken our ingredients to new levels, it has been the birthplace of world-class chefs and the origin of countless exotic fruits and tropical flavors to delight in.

If you visit Bogotá, one of the best plans you can do is to immerse yourself in a gastronomic tour, visit the famous market squares and take a walk through the historical center where you will find the best of the capital's culture: museums, the oldest streets and of course the recipes and the more traditional restaurants in the city. You will find several free tours around the city, but be prepared to be in groups of up to 30 people where you might not even catch a glimpse of your tour guide. I prefer small tours like this one that we’ve designed, where a maximum of 8 people makes the experience feel more like an extended family than the whole neighborhood tagging along.

Our Bogota Street Food Tour is a mix between the street local business and visiting traditional restaurants, we really visit more food reataurants since street food vendors are quite regulated in the city. Our tour begins with the smile of a guide, a brief of the La Candelaria neighborhood and a little history of this location wich will be expanded during the tour. From there we started out walking up slight hills and narrow cobblestone streets, then we begin our food journey with the famous empanadas, fried corn cake, filling with meat and potato, a delicious snack which contains the mix of cultures of Colombia, a pastry original from the arab cousine that traveled the continents to arrive here in South America. Then we try the famous Chocolate Santafereño – Colombia is a large cocoa producer - a traditional hot beverage with a very interesting history of evolution, after this, we stop in a local market where you will hear about, pitaya, lulo, curuba, granadilla, -very exotic names yes!- here’s your chance to put a face to them all and try them in just one sitting.

We also try the famous ajiaco, one of the most traditional soups in Bogotá which contain three types of potatoes, corn and chiken, a must-see! But this is not all we have four more stops, in total 7 food stops in a tour of approximately 3 hours long, we leave some of our stops in secret , that way when you visit us, you will be surprised.

This is a tour that transports you through the gastronomic heritage of our culture, while you learn key facts about the history of the capital, you get suggested things to do after the tour, La candelaria is a neighborhood full of activities, of course we give you recommendations of the best restaurants for dinner at night, and we assure you a full belly and a very happy heart.

I am a tour guide, business administrator and gastronomy lover. I totally believe in the magic of flavors; they make us travel through time, remind us of Grandma's house , that Christmas with the family around the table or that trip to that desired city. Wherever you go, mingle with the locals, visit the markets and try something traditional, that will always be the greatest connection you can create with a community.
